Abstract
This paper reflects on the author's experience translating the first book on the Balochi writing system, titled ‘بلوچی سیاھگ ءِ راست نبیسّگ’, into English. As an anthropologist, the author outlines observations, methodology, and challenges encountered, emphasizing how an anthropological approach reinterpreted the book and contributed to the standardization and accurate representation of the Balochi language.
Methodology
The research employed a linguistically-informed anthropological methodology. This included thorough textual analysis of the book, digital transcription while preserving details, and intensive linguistic scrutiny to identify and document errors. The author collaborated with prominent Baloch scholars, including the late Sir Abed Askani, Ali Essa, and Raaji Baloch, leveraging their linguistic and cultural insights to navigate the book and the sociolinguistic dynamics of the Baloch nation. Further scholarly pursuits involved reviewing relevant literature and engaging in online linguistics discourse.
